A Journey Through Time and Taste

Some journeys are so extraordinary that they deserve to be immortalized. Turkey (Türkiye) is undoubtedly one of them. Imagine a vacation where history blends seamlessly with thrilling adventure. Turkey is that place for me.
I visited two exceptionally beautiful cities in Turkey, Cappadocia and Istanbul, where I experienced so many unique things. Hence, I'm documenting all those beautiful moments to ensure I can revisit and relive these experiences whenever I want.
Cappadocia: Land of the Beautiful Horses
Cappadocia was an exceptional experience because I encountered and experienced things I had never before. Let me highlight a few of them.
Hot Air Balloon Adventure
Finally, one of the most awaited adventures of my life came true in Cappadocia - the mesmerizing hot air balloon ride. We woke up at 4 am in the morning to get ready, and a car came to pick us up from the hotel around 4:30 am. We went to the site, only to find out that the ride might be canceled due to high wind speed. To our surprise, the wind slowed down after 30 minutes, and they decided to go ahead with the flight.

The balloon gently took off into the majestic Cappadocian sky, unveiling the beautiful city below. What a heartwarming experience it was!

As we floated over the city, we admired the old architecture and glided between stunning rock formations, almost feeling like we could touch them. The excitement of being close to other balloons in the sky added to the thrill.

Rising higher and higher, the bird's-eye view of the city took our breath away. I still recall the refreshing cool breeze and the laughter shared among fellow travelers. It's remarkable how a group of strangers can become friends so quickly. We snapped pictures together from all angles, cherishing every moment in the sky.

Upon landing, we celebrated this once-in-a-lifetime experience with non-alcoholic champagne, marking the perfect ending to an unforgettable adventure.

Horse Riding Experience
In Cappadocia, we embarked on another brand new adventure - horseback riding through breathtaking valleys. This was our first time, and I was introduced to a stunning white horse, a true picture of elegance. Tabassum had her own companion, a deep and rich brown beauty.

With a rush of excitement, we mounted our horses, ready to explore. Off we went, our trusty steeds guiding us through the valleys like old friends. The valleys painted a breathtaking picture, and we were lucky enough to be part of it.

The valleys revealed their hidden curves one by one. Our horses understood us perfectly, moving effortlessly through the land. Up and down we went, the landscape kept on changing.

Getting off the horses, we felt a twinge of sadness – leaving our four-legged friends and the valleys behind. With the taste of adventure still fresh on our tongues, we left the valleys behind, knowing that this day had left a mark on us.

Kaymakli Underground City
Exploring the Kaymakli Underground City was like stepping into a secret world buried beneath the earth. This incredible place has been around since ancient times, starting from about 1600 B.C. It was like a hidden fortress where people found safety from invaders and extreme weather.

Inside, I was amazed by the twisting tunnels and cozy chambers. It felt like a real-life maze that people had created in the soft rock. Each level had its own job – there were places to live, kitchens, storage rooms, and even spaces for worship.

The clever builders had thought of everything, including air vents and wells. The stone doors they made were really cool too – a glimpse into how clever their engineering was back then.

Walking through the dim passageways, I saw how people used to live. Being in Kaymakli made me imagine what life was like for those ancient people. It's like a reminder that history is full of surprises, just waiting for us to find them, even if they're hidden deep below the ground.

Fairy Chimneys in Paşabağı
When we went to the Fairy Chimneys in Paşabağı, also called Monk Valley, it felt like we stepped into a magical story. The rocks looked like tall chimneys and cool shapes made by nature. Walking around, I liked touching the rocks with different textures that formed over many, many years.

Climbing up the chimneys made me think about people who lived here long ago. The quiet place made me feel calm and let me think about a long time passing. I went into all the small spaces between rocks and got lost in the wonder of Monk Valley. It's a special spot where nature and history come together in an amazing way.

Zelve Open-Air Museums
The Zelve Open Air Museum stands as a testament to the captivating history of early Christian monks who once inhabited its unique cave dwellings.

Roaming through its corridors, I saw the rock-cut churches, living spaces, and other ancient structures that whispered stories of an ancient civilization. The museum became more than just a collection of structures; it was a journey back in time, a personal encounter with the footsteps of those who lived here centuries ago.

Sunrise in Love Valley
Experiencing the sunrise in Love Valley was like a dream come true. Before the sun peeked over the horizon, Love Valley was like a cozy blanket of nature, waiting for the first rays of morning light. The rock formations stood tall and proud, and the whole valley felt like a secret world waking up.

And then, as the sun began to rise, the sky came alive with colorful hot air balloons floating gracefully above us. It was like a scene from a fairytale. People from all around the world gathered to share in this incredible moment of wonder.

Sunset Over Red Valley
Witnessing the sunset over Red Valley was truly amazing. The valley, with its rugged beauty and unique rock formations, seemed to come alive in the warm, golden light. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the whole landscape was bathed in a peaceful, magical glow.

Uçhisar Castle
On an exceedingly hot day, we ventured to Uçhisar Castle, determined to experience its towering magnificence. Despite the oppressive heat, the panoramic views from the castle were simply breathtaking, revealing the surreal Cappadocian landscape below.

Great Food
To say we had great food in Cappadocia would be an understatement. We journeyed from one restaurant to another, uncovering one amazing dish after another. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better, Cappadocia surprised us with new and delightful flavors.

The aroma of the delectable kebabs filled the air and our hearts. The cozy, traditional interiors reminded me of local customs, where authentic kebabs truly satisfied our taste buds.

Whether it was a mindless feast of succulent kebabs or a heartwarming dessert enjoyed on a rooftop at sunset, Cappadocia offered a culinary experience like no other.

Cave Hotels and Quaint Streets
Cappadocia is renowned for its cave hotels, offering a truly unique experience. Taking a leisurely walk along the charming streets of beautiful Cappadocia is delightful, with colorful shops lining the way. Particularly, the carpet shops have become extremely famous on Instagram recently. It was a pleasure to stroll during the nights, absorbing the beauty of the illuminated city.

Istanbul: Bridging Continents, Weaving Histories
Exploring Istanbul brought me an array of unparalleled encounters and novel experiences. Here, I'd like to illuminate a few that left an indelible mark.
Hagia Sophia
One place I had always yearned to visit was Hagia Sophia. Its history stretches back about 1500 years, and it's a remarkable symbol of both Christianity and Islam, showcasing astonishing architecture that has stood the test of time.

Thanks to our hotel's prime location, we enjoyed a stunning view of this incredible landmark even from our hotel. It's now open for Muslim prayers and visitors from around the globe. Hagia Sophia was a church for its first 1,000 years, serving as a significant Eastern Orthodox cathedral. However, in 1453, after the conquest of Constantinople (Present day Istanbul) by Sultan Mehmed II, it was transformed into a mosque, marking a new chapter in its rich history.

After patiently waiting in the longest queue I've ever experienced, my friends and I finally entered its majestic interior. The sheer magnificence of its architecture, dating back to the 15th century, left me utterly amazed.

The intricate details and remarkable design elements of that era were on full display, capturing the admiration of the countless visitors present.

The next day, we had the privilege of attending the Fajr prayer at Hagia Sophia—an experience that truly touched my heart. The delicate details and enchanting lighting of the place created a surreal ambiance that was simply unforgettable.

Topkapi Palace
After conquering Constantinople (Istanbul), Sultan Mehmet II built the magnificent Topkapi Palace, a sprawling complex surpassing the size of Vatican City.

Stepping inside, we were greeted by a dazzling display of regal splendor, each corner exuding an aura of majestic history. Every corridor of the palace unfolded a new chapter of opulence, from exquisitely adorned chambers to serene gardens and grand courtyards.

The harem, where the Sultan's Mothers, Sisters, Wives, daughters, and concubines resided, offered a glimpse into a more intimate realm.

Walking through these chambers, a sense of fascination and respect mingled within me, as I contemplated the lives and dramas that once graced these very spaces.

The Blue Mosque
The Blue Mosque, formally known as the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, was built in the early 17th century during the reign of Sultan Ahmed I. Its stunning architecture and intricate blue tiles have been captivating visitors for centuries.

My visit to the Blue Mosque was a serene and awe-inspiring experience. As I stepped inside, the peaceful ambiance and the mesmerizing play of light left me in a state of tranquil fascination. Outside, the magnificent domes and minarets against the backdrop of the clear blue sky created a picture-perfect scene.

I was also fortunate to enjoy splendid views of the Blue Mosque from my hotel, both during the day and at night when it was beautifully illuminated. This architectural gem, with its enchanting interior and breathtaking exterior, became a cherished memory of my time in Istanbul.

Hippodrome
As I step into Sultan Ahmed Square in Istanbul, I was instantly transported to a magical realm. The towering Blue Mosque on one side and the grandeur of Hagia Sophia on the other made me feel like I was a part of an ancient tale. And guess what? Right there, I find the Hippodrome, where chariot races roared with excitement long ago!

The Egyptian Obelisk and the Serpent Column stand proudly, reminding me of the incredible stories they've witnessed. It's as if I'm walking through time, with each corner of the square revealing a piece of history just waiting to be explored.

Basilica Cisturn
Built over 1,500 years ago during the Byzantine period, the Basilica Cistern is an incredible underground water reservoir that once kept Constantinople (Present day Istanbul) alive. Walking into its cool, dim-lit space, I felt like I was stepping into a hidden story from the past.

Inside, soft lights revealed rows of towering columns rising from the water, creating a magical sight. This place, once crucial for the city, now stands as a silent reminder of ingenious engineering and history's echoes. Being there, surrounded by the mysterious glow, made me realize the deep importance of this place – a hidden gem telling the tale of Istanbul's enduring past.

Suleymaniye Mosque
Suleymaniye Mosque, a masterpiece commissioned by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent in the 16th century, seamlessly blends history and serenity. During my visit, I marveled at its architectural splendor and found solace in its tranquil atmosphere.

Inside, the graceful interior with its soft illumination created a sense of reverence. While spending time within, I engaged in conversations with fellow visitors, and I was fortunate to gather a collection of Islamic literature, including an English translation of the Quran.

Standing tall at Suleymaniye Mosque, I marveled at the incredible view. Istanbul stretched out below, a beautiful painting of domes, minarets, and the shimmering Bosphorus that told stories of the city's rich history.

Bosphorus Cruise
The Bosphorus boat trip brought me immense joy, the happiest cruise I've ever had! We sailed past the enchanting Golden Horn, the grand Dolmabahçe Palace, and the iconic Galata Tower.

The sparkling Bosphorus Strait guided us, revealing stunning Ortaköy mosque and graceful bridges that connected the two sides of Istanbul – Europe and Asia. As we sailed, I marveled at the charming houses painted in vibrant colors and the mesmerizing sunset that bathed everything in a warm glow.

Playful seagulls accompanied us, while the cheerful sounds of chatter and laughter from fellow travelers created a lively atmosphere. This journey was a treasure trove of unforgettable moments, each one etching a memory of pure happiness and wonder.

Turkish Bath
Stepping into the Turkish bath was like entering a realm of pure relaxation. The journey unfolded with a rejuvenating sauna session, followed by the cocooning embrace of the steam room. After that an traditional exfoliation and foam cleansing treatment prepared us for the utmost luxury – a full body mud treatment that left us feeling revitalized from head to toe.
With a nourishing face pack and expert hand care, we were ushered into a world of pampering. A deeply satisfying full body massage and a soothing reflexology foot massage left us floating in a state of pure bliss. As we sipped on refreshing drinks and savored delectable snacks, a sense of contentment settled over us. I felt like an Ottoman Sultan, basking in the opulence of an experience fit for royalty. This journey had not only cleansed our bodies but transported us to a bygone era of regal indulgence.

Living the Ottoman Legacy
One of the most memorable parts of our adventure was dressing up in traditional Ottoman-era clothing and capturing those moments on camera. As I adorned the intricate attire, I couldn't help but imagine myself as Sultan Mehmet the 2nd. It was like stepping into a different world, feeling the weight of history and experiencing the grandeur of that era. The entire experience was truly incredible, making me appreciate the past in a whole new way.

Theodosian Walls of Constantinople
Standing before the imposing Theodosian Walls of Constantinople, a profound sense of awe and admiration washed over enveloped me. For Roman (Byzantine) empire the walls of Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul) were a crucial defense against various invasions and sieges over the centuries.

These monumental walls, which extend for over 6 kilometers, witnessed numerous battles and sieges throughout history until the Ottomans eventually conquered.

The Grand Bazaar
The Grand Bazaar is a massive and historic market in Istanbul, Turkey, likely one of the oldest markets globally. As I wandered through its bustling corridors, I experienced a lively mix of sights and sounds, encountering a diverse array of goods ranging from textiles to spices. Its rich history and bustling energy make it a must-visit destination.

The Egyptian Spice Bazaar
The Egyptian Spice Bazaar, located in the heart of Istanbul, is a captivating market where the fragrant aroma of spices fills the air. Exploring its vibrant stalls, I was immersed in a sensory journey, surrounded by colorful spices, teas, and exotic scents. This bustling bazaar has a rich history and offers a unique glimpse into the city's trade and culture.

Heavenly Food
As I set out on my journey, little did I know that the real adventure would be on my plate. Picture this: tender kebabs that practically melted in my mouth, and those meatballs, oh, they were like little savory clouds. The fish dishes were a delight too, fresh and perfectly cooked, capturing the essence of the sea.

But the real showstopper? The curries. The aroma alone was enough to transport me to far-off lands. And let's not forget about the Turkish tea – a warm and soothing companion after each flavorful escapade. And the coffee – strong, bold, and the perfect kickstart to the mornings.

And then there's Ayran, a zesty and cool drink that seemed to reset my taste buds after each feast. Let's not forget Baklava, a sweet crescendo in this symphony of flavors.

We also went to Salt Bae restaurant, where we relished the renowned Saltbae burger and steak. A taste of his culinary artistry, each bite was a symphony of flavors. Amidst an ambiance of modern luxury and Turkish heritage, we embraced a nice dining experience.

Beautiful Streets with Great Vibe
One of my favorite things is how nature seems to blend seamlessly with the urban landscape. Amidst the hustle and bustle, there are these pockets of green oases that offer a breath of fresh air and a moment of tranquility. It's like the city knows just when to give you a little escape.

But what truly makes Istanbul special is its people. I've met some of the friendliest and most welcoming folks here. There's a sense of community that wraps around you like a warm embrace, making you feel like you belong, even if you're just passing through.

Walking through the charming streets of Istanbul is like stepping into a dream world. As the sun dips below the horizon, the city transforms into a lively playground of lights and excitement. It's as if the whole place comes to life, buzzing with an energy that's impossible to resist.

And then there's that magical stroll along the Marmara Sea at night. The gentle breeze, the rhythmic waves, and the way the city lights dance on the water – it's a scene straight out of a fairy tale. It's the perfect way to wrap up the journey, a peaceful and soothing end to days filled with exploration and wonder. Istanbul isn't just a city; it's an experience that lingers in your heart long after you've left its beautiful streets behind.

Turkish Farewell
As I bid farewell to the captivating beauty of Turkey, with its spellbinding landscapes in Cappadocia and the enchanting allure of Istanbul's streets, I can't help but feel a mixture of emotions. The hot air balloon's ascent over Cappadocia's unique rock formations and the warm embrace of Istanbul's vibrant culture have etched memories that I know will call me back someday. Goodbye, beautiful cities, for now, but I already feel the promise of a return, eager to embrace your magic once again.
