Why Did I Study Logotherapy Despite My Background in Finance?

Despite my educational and professional background in Finance, my fascination with human psychology has always burned brightly within me. This curiosity led me to embark on a journey into the realm of Logotherapy. The term "Logotherapy" originates from the Greek word "logos," signifying "meaning" or "purpose," while "therapy" conveys the essence of "healing." Logotherapy, therefore, means healing through the discovery of meaning.
Logotherapy is a distinct branch of existential school of psychotherapy. Logotherapy focuses on helping individuals find meaning and purpose in their lives, even in the face of suffering or adversity, and emphasizes the importance of personal responsibility and the power of choice in determining one's own life direction.
Logotherapy is often used as a complement to traditional forms of psychotherapy and has been found to be effective in treating a variety of mental health conditions, including depression and anxiety. Dr. Viktor Frankl was the founder of logotherapy. His seminal work, "Man's Search for Meaning," was a source of inspiration for many, including myself, to study logotherapy.
I am currently enrolled at the Viktor Frankl Institute of Logotherapy, where my goal is immersing myself in this discipline. I have already completed the Introduction to Logotherapy, and Advanced Degree. I am currently at Diplomate Level studying together with professionals (Doctors, Psychologists, and Psychiatrists) from all corners of the globe.
My motive for studying Logotherapy was twofold: to help both my friends and family in leading more purposeful lives, and, perhaps above all, to guide my own path. However, when I started studying Logotherapy, I became so interested in the deeper questions of life that I began studying Philosophy, and that turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life.
This journey into Logotherapy, combined with my love for Philosophy, History, and a passion for travelling, has expanded (at least a bit) my understanding of the world. It has endowed me with newfound resilience and an enriched the lens through which I perceive the world.
In my upcoming articles, I'll blend what I've learned from Logotherapy, philosophy, history, travelling and my own life experiences. Hopefully, I will be able to combine my thoughts on life, and the wisdom life itself teaches us.
